About our Clay Cross Surgery

Chris Charlesworth opened C.P. Charlesworth Veterinary Surgeons in 1979. At the time it was just Chris working out of a single small converted terrace house. In those days it was normal for vets to see all types of animal and Chris was no exception.

our Clay Cross SurgeryOver the years the practice grew and more staff were employed and as properties in the terrace became available they were purchased and the practice was also extended with new purpose built areas. In the early 1990s due to the advance of skills in the veterinary profession it was decided to stop seeing the large animals (farm and horses) to concentrate on pet animals.

In 2000 the entire row of houses was purchased and Peregrine moved to the practice. Over the subsequent years Peregrine became a partner, the name of the practice was changed to The Charlesworth Veterinary Surgery and further improvements were made to the practice services and facilities. This is a continually ongoing process.

Most recently, the cat ward was moved and improved in 2015. The cats now have light and spacious kennels in a much bigger room and importantly there are no kennels facing each other.

In July 2016 we will finally be renovating our waiting room. This will involve some extensive reworking of the floor so the waiting room and reception area will be closed for a couple of weeks. We are developing alternative arrangements for this time.

If you would like to have a look around the practice please let reception know. Its a bit of a maze at the back so you will need a guide!.
